Buenos Aires, December 5 (NA) – The final arguments in the oral trial against gynecologist Diego Javier Clementi will be presented this Friday, and it is expected to learn what penalty each party will request.
The 14 reported incidents are said to have occurred between 2017 and 2022, when the professional, after gaining the trust of women, took advantage of check-ups to attack them.
Claudia Perugino, lawyer for several of the victims, confirmed in an interview with the Argentine News Agency that this Friday, starting at 10:00, the final arguments stage will begin at the Oral Court in Criminal Matters No. 3 of Lomas de Zamora.
Regarding the verdict against the 57-year-old man, judges María Fernanda Anaya, Marcelo Hugo Dellature, and Luis Miguel Gabián will hand down the sentence on the upcoming December 22.
On Friday, as in almost all hearings, relatives, friends, and members of various organizations are gathered outside the court with signs to support the victims.
In a controversial testimony, Clementi declared himself "innocent," denied the abuses, and even apologized if he was ever "rough."
The gynecologist went to trial accused of sexual abuse with carnal access committed repeatedly (five facts), seriously offensive sexual abuse with carnal access (two facts), and seriously offensive sexual abuse (six facts) against 12 victims, for which he faces a sentence of 8 to 20 years in prison.
